Gerard C. "Jerry" Burke, 62, Wahpeton, ND, died April 22, 2007 at his home in Wahpeton.

The funeral for Jerry will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Breckenridge, MN, with Fr. Andrew Marthaler officiating.

Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota

Gerard is survived by: His 2 daughters: Rachael Gregoire and Amy Anderson; both of Aurora, Colorado; His 2 grandchildren: Dillon Gregoire and Emily Anderson; His twin sister: Joyce (Dale) Truckenmiller, Littleton, CO; His 2 brothers: Edward (Pamela) Burke, Aurora, CO; and Donald Burke, Lakewood CO; His good friends: Steve and Clair Zoucha, Wahpeton, ND

He was preceded in death by His parents: Edward and Maxine Burke

Jerry was born May 28, 1944 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Edward and Maxine (Day) Burke. He grew up in Denver and entered the U. S. Army on September 16, 1963. Jerry spent one year in Korea before being shipped to Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division. He served in Vietnam for over three years, being stationed from Saigon to the DMZ, in four different units. He then returned to Korea and spent two more tours there. Jerry was later stationed in Tokyo, Japan and Shemya, Alaska. He retired from the Army after 20 years, 14 days and 10 hours on October 1, 1983. Jerry was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, 5 Army Commendation Medals, 9 Campaign Medals (Battle Stars), the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry (three awards), the Korean Service Medal and numerous other awards.

Following his retirement from the Army, Jerry worked for the U. S. Post Office, did security work and worked packing pickles for Vlassic in Wisconsin. He was also employed at the Department of Social Services in Colorado, where he worked issuing food stamps.

Jerry is a member of the VFW Club and American Legion, both in Wahpeton, ND and the Disabled American Veterans in Fargo, ND. He moved to Wahpeton in 2002, where he has since resided.
