HOLECEK, GERTRUDE (JANU)

Middleton, WI / Breckenridge, MN-Gertrude (Janu) Holecek, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Middleton, Wis., on Saturday, July 1, 2006. She was born in Kent, Minn. on September 19, 1913, the daughter of August & Barbara (Wilfeuer) Janu. She married Alfred Holecek on January 4, 1934 in Kent, Minn. Gertrude was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge, Minn., the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Her passion for work was only exceeded by her love of gardening, making quilts for her great-grandchildren and her many years working at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minn. as a physical therapist. In later years Gertrude was able to travel by motor home to the Canadian Maritime Providences, the Pacific Northwest, and the warm climates of Florida, Arizona and southern California.

Gertrude is survived by her son Donald (Kathleen) Holecek, Tampa, Florida; her daughter Janice (Bernie) Pehl, Middleton, Wisconsin; five grandsons, Mark (Stacy) Pehl, Dale (Diane) Pehl of Des Moines, Iowa, Creig (Kristin) Pehl of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Glen (Kristine) Pehl of Janesville, Wisconsin, David Holecek of Golden Valley, Arizona; a granddaughter, Evonne Baker of Tampa, Florida; eight great-grandsons, Larry and Dustin Baker, Taylor Holecek, Austin, Joshua, Justin, Blake and Brady Pehl; six great-granddaughters, Morgan Holecek, Natasha, Angela and Brooke Pehl, Sara Gilliam, and Jordyn Worthington; two sisters, Ann Klein of Breckenridge, Minnesota, Mary Chezik of Wahpeton, North Dakota, one brother, Paul Janu of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; a sister-in-law Veronica Janu and many nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; Christine Horky, Wilfreda Gehrig, and Martha Tuna; three brothers, Anton, E. J. and John Janu; and five brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a very special great-granddaughter, Holly Baker, whom she loved so very much.

Gertrude's Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, MN. Visitation will be held Friday, July 21, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM and Christian Mother's Rosary at 4:30 PM. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge.
