Gladys was born to Wilfred and Thora (Song) Hanson. As a toddler, Gladys and her family moved to Rothsay, MN. She attended school in Rothsay through the eighth grade. They lived on the Ottertail County side of Rothsay so they had to pay $3.00 to go to school in the town of Rothsay, which was on the Wilkin County side. Her first employer was the Sheldon Cowie family who employed her as a helper in their house. Later, she was employed as a typesetter for the Rothsay newspaper.

On October 31, 1931 Gladys married the love of her life, Theo Prieb. They began their life together on a farm in Mitchell Township of rural Wolverton, MN. She was kept very busy raising their 4 children and helping on the farm. Gladys was known as a great cook-especially breads and rolls. She was an avid reader; enjoyed golfing, and was a devoted Twins fan-having attended many Twins games with Ted over the years. She was active in her community and church but most of her life centered on her family. There were many happy memories of family gatherings on the ‘home place’ with relatives and friends, with the Fourth of July and Christmas celebrations being among the favorite.

After her husband passed in 1993, she continued to live on the family farm until moving to Rothsay in 1999 to be closer to her sister. In 2003, Gladys moved to Golden Manor Assisted Living in Barnesville when macular degeneration and glaucoma made it impossible for her to see well enough to live alone. The Golden Manor quickly became home to her and they loved Gladys for her sense of humor and her ability to entertain them with her outspokenness. She will be missed by many.

Gladys is survived by    her daughters, Marcy (Jim) Vavricka of Pelican Rapids, MN; Donna Varty of Elk River, MN;10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her sister- Eunice Alexander of Barnesville, MN. She is preceded by her husband Theo Prieb (1993); her son- Ted Prieb (2007); her daughter, Geraldine Schoephoester (1977) and her siblings-Lloyd, Alvin, Ernest, Phyllis, Winnifred, and Violet.
