It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Greyson Glen Shirrell, 34, of Wahpeton, ND. Greyson was born on October 5, 1990, in Clarksville, TN, and departed this life on May 27, 2025, in Fargo, ND surrounded by his family.
Greyson's journey through life was characterized by a commitment to both hard work and joy. He demonstrated his versatility through numerous jobs as an electrician, welder, painter, and bartender, truly embodying the spirit of a jack of all trades. Alongside his work, he brought warmth and flavor to the lives of those around him with his exceptional cooking—a talent he used to bring spice to everyone's lives (literally), creating memorable moments for family and friends.
Graduating from North Sargent High School in Gwinner, ND, in 2009, Greyson approached life with a funny and witty personality that endeared him to all who met him. He had a rare gift, the ability to lift others, no matter the weight of the moment. Whether it was through a perfectly timed word of encouragement, a bit of humor, or a simple smile, Greyson had a presence that transformed ordinary days into memorable ones.
Greyson was not only a skilled worker but also an active participant in various hobbies, enjoying golf, softball, basketball, football, and pool. His pool league voted him player of the year after the win in 2024. His vibrant spirit will be missed but fondly remembered.
Greyson proudly served in the Minnesota National Guard, a testament to his dedication and sense of service to his community and country. He was deeply proud of his role as a father, cherishing his daughter, Austyn, born in 2017, who was the pride and joy of his life.
They were two peas in a pod. Greyson enjoyed teaching Austyn how to play sports and the two could harmonize any song played on the radio.
He is survived by his loving family: his daughter, Austyn Shirrell; mother, Tammy Lugert; father, Dan Lugert; father, Brian Shirrell, sister, Chelci (Lucas) Keller; brother, Quenten Lugert; niece, Kinlee Keller; and grandparents, Rose Bredvik, John Shirrell, Dale and Laura Lugert. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Tony Roob and Jr. Bredvik; his grandmother, Nicole Landrum; and his uncle, Wesley Shirrell.
The community is invited to join in honoring Greyson's life. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM. The family of Greyson is asking all who attend to come in your favorite Minnesota Vikings gear, as Greyson was an avid Vikings fan.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated the following day, Friday, June 6, 2025, at Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Mantador, ND, starting at 10:00 AM. Fr. Michael Hickin will officiate the service.
May he rest in peace.
