Hazel Strom

November 4, 1915 — March 24, 2005

Hazel Strom, 89, Breckenridge, MN, died March 24, 2005 at her home in Breckenridge. Her funeral will be held Monday, March 28, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church, Breckenridge, with Pastor Terry Tilton officiating.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 27, from 5:00 P.M. 7:00 P.M. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Monday. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge.

Hazel is survived by:Her daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Paul Thulen, Breckenridge, MN; Her 4 grandchildren: Tom Thulen and Jennifer Thulen, both of Minneapolis, MN; and Bill (Laura) Hansen III, Longville, MN; Stacey (Kevin)Boeckenstedt, Minneapolis, MN; Her 4 great-grandchildren: Ellie and Tommy Hansen and Bella and Ben Boeckenstedt; Her son-in-law: William Hansen II, Longville, MN; Her sister-in-law: Lora Mae Zluticky, Breckenridge, MN; Several nieces and nephews

She was preceded by:Her parents: Wenzel and Josephine Zluticky; Her husband: Orville A. Strom; Her daughter: Bonnie Hansen; Her brothers: Walter, Elmer and Ralph Zluticky; Her sister: Ruth Lonseth

Hazel was born November 4, 1915 in her parent's farm home in Wilkin County, MN to Wendell and Josephine (Peschak) Zluticky. She grew up on the farm and attended school in Doran, MN.

In 1937, Hazel married Orville Strom in Breckenridge, MN. They moved to Tacoma, WA in 1942 where Orville worked in the shipyards and Hazel worked for Boeing as a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII. After returning to Breckenridge, Hazel worked as a seamstress for Apex Cleaners. Upon retiring from her job, she did sewing for others in her home.

Hazel attended the United Methodist Church in Breckenridge, and was a lifelong member of the Women's Benefit Association. She loved working in her yard and flower beds. Hazel also enjoyed all of nature and the changing of the seasons. She found great pleasure in feeding the birds and squirrels. Hazel found her greatest joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
