It is with heavy hearts and joyous memories that we announce the passing of Jean Gast, 80, of Kent, MN. Jean, a beloved mother, and cherished friend, passed away at her home on December 27, 2025. A memorial service led by Fr. Leo Moenkedick will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Kent, MN, at 10:30 am. There will also be a public visitation on Friday, January 2, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN, with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 pm.

Jean Ann Gast was born on April 15, 1945, to Ralph & Viola Johnson in Breckenridge, MN. Jean attended Breckenridge High School, graduating with the class of 1963. On September 10, 1966, Jean married the love of her life, Warren Gast. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Warren’s passing in December 2021 left a profound impact, but the love they shared remained a guiding light for Jean.

A devoted stay-at-home-mom, Jean spent her days nurturing her family and was a beloved fixture in her community. For an impressive 42 years, she brought her warmth and friendliness to the Fort Saloon, where her infectious smile and kind spirit left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Jean was known as "Grammy" to many, embodying the essence of generosity and love for everyone who crossed her path. Jean’s culinary talents were legendary among her friends and family. She found pure joy in making apple pies with the "Crazy Kent Pie Ladies" and was famous for her delicious doughnuts, which were a staple at family gatherings and community events. Her spirit shone in her love for cooking and baking, and her goodies were shared with a smile that lit up the room. She also enjoyed the simple pleasure of working outside. Her legacy of love, friendship, and an unwavering spirit continues to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Jean is survived by her daughters: Karen (Brad) Lehmann and Jolisa (Adam) Jenstead; grandchildren: Bailey (Crystal), Abby (Evan), Kolden, Jared (Katie), Mason, and Carter; great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Emmitt, Waylon, Ellie, and Kam, and the countless family members and friends who were touched by her kindness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Warren, and her parents Ralph & Viola Johnson; siblings: Robert Johnson and Ione Meyer, and niece Diane Rosenau.
