Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge.

Joy was born on March 26, 1929 in Amarillo, Texas, to Lloyd and LaVerne (Lassiter) Nugent. LaVerne passed away a few days after childbirth, so Joy was raised by her aunt and uncle, Effie and J.T. Crecelius. She attended school in Amarillo and graduated in 1947. After graduation, she began working as a telephone operator for Southern Bell.

Joy married Edward Colby on November 11, 1950, in Amarillo. They made their home in Amarillo for several years, at which point they moved to Campbell, Minnesota, in 1956. Joy enjoyed being a housewife and raising her four children. The family later moved into Breckenridge in 1960. Edward passed away in July of 1980.

Joy was very active in the community. She was a member of the Wilkin County Homemakers Club since 1960; a Hospice volunteer for over 25 years; a member of First Baptist Church in Breckenridge; and a 4-H leader for 10 years while her children were in school. She enjoyed playing Bingo, and the card game "Blitz" with her friends at Park Manor, where she resided for the last several years. She also delighted in making frequent trips to the casino to try her luck.

Joy is survived by her Daughter, Teeko Colby, of Breckenridge, and her son Derek, of Fargo; Son Wayne "Bozo" (Carol) Colby, of Breckenridge, and their children, Rebecca (Kyle) Theisen, of Mooreton, and Jenny (Butch) Petersen, of Breckenridge, and their two sons, William and Zachary; Daughter Ellen (Scott) Lehmann, and their sons Alex, of Fargo, Tyler, of Nebraska, Preston, of Nebraska, and Zachary, of Fargo; Grandchildren (Lona's children), Samantha Gibson, and her son Colby, of Fargo, and Brandon Gibson, of Fargo; and also several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edward; her daughter Lona Gibson; a baby grandson Adam Lehmann; her sister Lois Fuller; and her brother Gene Crecelius.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Riveredge Hospice in Breckenridge, and St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge.
