Karen was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota, and graduated from Fargo North High School in 1977. She went on to attend North Dakota State University, studying psychology with a minor in child development, before enrolling at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton. There, she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree in 1982.

Karen dedicated her life to caring for others. She began her nursing career in 1982 as a night charge nurse at a nursing home in Northome, Minnesota. In 1985, she returned to Fargo and spent a decade working with individuals with developmental disabilities through Fraser, Ltd., where her compassion and steady presence made a lasting difference. In 1997, she joined Red River Human Services in Wahpeton, continuing her meaningful work until her retirement in 2018.

On June 24, 1989, Karen married the love of her life, Larry Bahr, in Fargo. Together they built a life grounded in family and devotion, making their home in Fargo before moving to the Wyndmere area. They later settled in Breckenridge, Minnesota, where Karen continued to reside following Larry’s passing.

In retirement, Karen found joy in the simple and meaningful things she had always loved. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, knitting and crocheting, playing guitar and piano, and even relaxing with games on her phone. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, who were the center of her life. Karen was also a proud lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and Vietnam Veterans of America Auxiliary.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Heather (Chris) Lundberg of Fargo, North Dakota; Cyrus Bahr; and Melissa (Jeff) Snyder of Breckenridge, Minnesota; her brother, David (Nancy) Monson of Fargo; her sister, Diane (Greg) Slotten of Big Lake, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Ashlynn Bahr, Gavin Snyder, Dylan Bahr, Tessa Snyder, Greta Bahr, Henry Lundberg and Cora Lundberg.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Bahr; her parents, Bennie and Dolores Monson; and her brother, Gary Monson.

Karen’s gentle spirit, caring heart, and unwavering dedication to those she loved will be cherished always.
