Kayleen Mary Whaley, 70, of Hankinson, ND, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016, surrounded by her family, at Manor Care in Fargo. The visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, with a prayer service at 6:00 PM, on Friday, January 6, at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN. The visitation will continue from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, on Saturday, January 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hankinson, followed by the funeral at 1:00 PM. Pastor Adam Moline will officiate. The interment will be at a later date.
Kayleen was born in Breckenridge, MN, on April 30, 1946, one of 14 children born to George and Luella (Arntson) Drewlow. Following her graduation from Breckenridge High School, Kay moved off the family farm and ventured on her own until she met and married the love of her life, James Earl Whaley, on December 31, 1966. The couple made their home and raised their two sons in the Hankinson, ND area. Kay was an EMT for the Hankinson Ambulance Service for 25 years and drove for South Valley Multi District Special Education Service, for 20 years. She also maintained various other jobs in the Hankinson Community and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
In her spare time, Kay enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors. She loved arts and crafts and made sure that plenty of pictures were taken at the events of her family and friends. She treasured visiting her mom at the nursing home and above all, Kay looked forward to spending time with her family, especially her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kay is survived by her two sons, Todd (Louie) Whaley of Fergus Falls, MN and Chris (Stephanie) Whaley of Wahpeton, ND; her mother, Luella Drewlow of Breckenridge; her siblings, John (Marilyn) Drewlow of Lisbon, ND, Annetta Martin of Doran, MN, Denny (Vickie) Drewlow of Great Bend, ND, Meryl (John) Ostendorf of Big Fork, MN, Grace (Mike) Giombetti of Hibbing, MN, Donna (Doug) Johnson of Racine, WI Loretta Drewlow of Spokane, WA, LaVern (Gretta) Drewlow of Effie, MN, Jim (Sandy) Drewlow of Effie, MN, Janice (Gary Smith) Drewlow of Wahpeton, ND, Kenny (Roxsy) Drewlow of Fargo, ND, and Marlin (Brenda) Drewlow of Dilworth, MN; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Kay is preceded in death by her father, George Drewlow; her husband, James Whaley; her grandson, Austin Vosberg; her sister, Pat Drewlow; and her brothers-in-law, Ike Bader and George Martin.
