Lester John Krump, 87 of Kent, MN died on March 7, 2012 at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND surrounded by his family. The visitation is on Friday, March 9 from 4:00 to 7:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. The funeral is at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Kent, MN on Saturday, March 10 at 10:30 am. Father Kenneth Popp is officiating. The interment is at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Kent.
Lester was born on May 26, 1924 to Peter and Ella (Foertsch) Krump in Mantador, ND. He grew up on the family farm on the west side of Hankinson, ND and attended school at St. Francis Academy. Lester was an important part of the operation of the family business- Krump Dairy. In 1942, Lester's dad bought the FEMCO No. 2 farm near Kent, MN. Eventually the family farm was turned over to Lester and his brothers. He was united in marriage to Marie Underberg on May 25, 1944 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Kent. Together they raised their four children and ran the farm. Marie preceded him in death on July 28, 1998. Lester moved into Breckenridge in November of 2003 but continued to help on the farm.
Lester was active in St. Thomas Church, the Roberts Township Board, Catholic Order of Foresters, and Eagles Aerie #2749 in Wahpeton, ND. He was a gentle man and a colorful story teller. In his spare time, Lester loved to play cards, fish, and could be seen twirling his bride of 54 years, around on the dance floor.
Lester is survived by three children, David (Marsha) Krump of Eau Claire, WI, Marilyn Krump and her companion Gloria Krysiak of Madison, WI, Donald (Laurie) Krump of Worland, Wyoming; his 7 grandchildren, LaNae Loegering, Benjamin (Amanda) Retzak-Krump and Megan Krump; Carly and Haley Krump; Corey (Kari Fischer)Peterson and Amy (Justin) Hashbarger; 8 great-grandchildren; his son-in-law Richard (Suzanne) Peterson of Wahpeton, ND; his siblings Darlene Witt, Hilarion (Hank) Ehlert, Dorothy (Mark) Kaler, Geraldine Arnhalt, Gerald (Grace) Krump, LouElla Freese, Art (Bernice) Krump, Paul (Marlys) Krump, Patricia (Don) Bettise, Elaine (Louis) Nordick, Illa (Dennis) Abel, Emogene "Meg" Parmer, Lee (Shirley) Krump, Lavonne Althoff; a half brother Dennis (Deb) Krump; step- sister Janice (Dale) Lehrke and his special friend Gloria Rezac.
Lester is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Ella Krump, his wife Marie Krump, his daughter Cheryl Peterson (2004); 2 half sisters Angeline Buckhouse, Mary Ann Scheller and a step brother Duane Mumm.
