Lucille Beyer-Wasemiller

June 13, 1933 — July 30, 2016

Lucy was born in rural Mantador, ND, on June 13, 1933, one of five girls born to Arnold and Julia (Gaukler) Reinke. She attended school in Hankinson, ND, and graduated from high school in 1951. Following high school, Lucy enrolled at St. Francis School of Nursing in Breckenridge and graduated in 1954. After finishing college, she found employment in Colorado Springs, CO and then Tacoma, WA. Wanting to be closer to her roots, Lucy returned to Breckenridge in January of 1956, where she was employed at St. Francis Hospital. She was united in marriage to Alfred Beyer on September 27, 1956 in Mantador. The couple moved to Breckenridge for a short time before moving to the Beyer home farm near Brushvale, MN. They were blessed with five children. Lucy diligently worked part time at the hospital, attentively raised her children and was a devoted wife and help-mate for Alfred on the farm.
On September 25, 1972, Alfred passed away. A short time later, Lucy began full-time employment at St. Francis Hospital and eventually moved her family into Breckenridge. She had a gratifying and enjoyable nursing career right up until the day she retired in May of 1996. Six years later, on February 9, 2002, Lucy was united in marriage to Dr. Elmer Wasemiller in Wahpeton, ND. She and Elmer loved to travel together and they spent their winters in Escondido, CA.
Lucy was an industrious worker who loved life and never backed down from a challenge. She was unswerving in her commitment to her children and her church family. She left a legacy of integrity and grit that her children will always hold dear. Lucy loved helping her patients and served as a mentor to many of the younger nurses. She was a skilled wood-worker. Over the years Lucy crafted many furniture pieces, built a deck in her backyard, and made many updates in her home. She was an accomplished wood-carver, quilter, and loved music. Lucy was in a bowling league where she traveled the United States and developed many lifelong friendships. But among the things she valued in this life, her family was her most cherished of all.
Lucy will be deeply missed by her husband, Dr. Elmer Wasemiller; her children, Julie (Ken) Mazac of River Falls, WI, Patty (Loren) Ellefson of Milnor, ND, Greg (Mary) Beyer of Horace, ND, Janet (Greg) McMullen of Fargo, ND, and Karen (Todd) Safgren of Eden Prairie, MN; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois (Ed) Moen of Galchutt, ND and Renae Gabel of Hankinson, ND; and many nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Julia; her first husband, Alfred; and two sisters, Arlene Krump and Cecelia Lenz; and her son-in-law, Lloyd Hingst, Jr.
