LuVerne William Eichhorn, "Bud" to his family and friends, was born on August 22, 1923, on his family farm near Sonora, ND, to Floyd and Clara (Berg) Eichhorn. He was baptized in St. Phillips Catholic Church in Hankinson and confirmed in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fairmount. He attended country school in Devillo Township. On September 10, 1946, Bud was united in marriage to Agnes Rose Goerdt, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church. The couple moved onto a farm in the Fairmount area, and with love and determination, raised nine children. Bud farmed until 1973, at which time he began doing construction work for Valley Reality in Wahpeton. Bud and Agnes moved off the family farm and into Breckenridge in 1989.
Bud was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and passed on a strong Catholic tradition to his children. He was a dedicated member and volunteer at the Wahpeton Eagles Club for over 50 years, where he also looked forward to Saturday night dances. Once Bud retired, gardening quickly climbed to the top of his list of favorite things to do. He was skilled at woodworking and loved the serenity of fishing by the river. Bud had a soft spot in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved family gatherings.
Bud is survived by his wife of 69 years, Agnes, of Breckenridge; his children, Larry (Diane)Eichhorn of Fargo, ND, Susan (Clayton) Wieser of Hankinson, ND, Diane (LaDale) Bontjes, of Breckenridge, Teresa (Randy) Froshaug of New Town, ND, Gary (Shelley) Eichhorn, of Breckenridge, Alan (Karen) Eichhorn of Portland, ND, and Paul (Joy) Eichhorn of Breckenridge; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ervin (Marilyn) Eichhorn of Wahpeton; a sister-in-law, Rhonda Eichhorn of Jamestown, ND; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce and David; two granddaughters, Lacey and Ashley Bontjes; two sisters, Evelyn Wieser and Elinor Anderson; and a brother, Melvin.
