Lynn James Deal

Lynn James Deal, 73, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, ND.  His memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior.  Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN.  Jeanne Putnam will officiate.

Lynn was born on July 30, 1949, to Edgar and Arlene (Jirak) Deal in Breckenridge, MN.  He attended elementary school in Doran, MN, and attended Breckenridge High School, Breckenridge, and ultimately, graduated in 1967 from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN.  Lynn furthered his education at NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND, for business management. 

On December 6, 1969, Lynn married Charlotte Lyngaas at St. John’s Church in Wahpeton, ND.  From this union, they were blessed with two children, Michelle and Eric.

In 1974, he began work at Rick’s Electric, and worked there for many years.  Later he would go on to do maintenance at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Barnesville, MN.

Lynn married Jean Berg on April 21, 1983, in Breckenridge, MN.  They were married for 10 years, but continued to hold a very close friendship after their divorce.

Lynn’s love of the outdoors kept him grounded in the Wilkin and Ottertail County areas.  You could often see him on his front porch having coffee, soaking in the sights and sounds of nature. Lynn loved riding bicycle and gardening. In his free time, he also pursued passions such as cooking and refurbishing furniture.

Lynn is survived by his children, Michelle (Ryan) Mullikin, Eric (Jami) Deal; grandchildren, Shelby, Megan, Ethan, Dylann, Lauren, Alexa; siblings, Susan Bernier, Sandra Mess, Barbara (Bruce) Schaible, Daniel (Ann) Deal, Thomas (Cindy) Deal, James (Connie) Deal, Jane (Mike) Hansen; sister-in-law, Cindy A. Deal; several nieces and nephews; and his good friend, Jean ‘Berg’ Deal.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Arlene; and his brother Michael Deal.
