Marilyn Grant

May 1, 1933 — May 1, 2014

Marilyn Jessie Grant, 81, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND. The visitation will be at Joseph Vertin & Sons in Breckenridge, on Monday, May 5, from 10:00 to 11:00AM, followed by the funeral at 11:00AM. Pastor Ken Kirchenwitz will be officiating.
Marilyn was born May 1, 1933 to Otto and Elizabeth (Broued) Byberg in Valley City, ND. She attended school in Valley City, graduating high school in 1951. Following her education, she married Newell Grant and the couple made their home in Breckenridge. Marilyn's most treasured role in life was that of mother and homemaker. When her children were young, she was active in 4-H Club and Cub Scouts. Later in life, she worked in the dietary department at St. Francis Medical Center in Breckenridge. Marilyn was a member of the Park Edition Homemakers Club and Breckenridge Women's Study Club.
Family and friends were greeted by the wonderful aromas of homemade bread and goodies. Marilyn took pride in her yard, which was reflected in being a five-time recipient of the Yard of the Week award. She loved feeding the birds and tending her gardens. Breckenridge was truly "home" to Marilyn, valuing so much her neighborhood friends and the experiences of small town living. Showing kindness and compassion to others, especially the underdog, was modeled in her home and realized in the hearts of her children.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Bambi (Tim) Ivers of Seminole, FL, and Bryce (Rosalie) Grant of Sacramento, CA; her 8 grandchildren, Jessica (Rob) Tanner, Chelsea Flynn, Melanie Anderson, Dennis Cimbura, Benjamin, Cimbura, Casey Cimbura, Tracey Braaten and Ashley Grant; three great-grandchildren, Vivian Tanner, Carter Flynn, Isabella Cimbura; her sisters, Sonja Clemenson of Devils Lake, ND, Jeanette (Bob) Lester of Olympia, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Elizabeth; her daughter Lisa Grant; and her brothers, Jacob and Clarence Byberg; and her sister, Alice Johnson.
