Marjorie Mary Lommel, 86, of Breckenridge, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Pioneer Cottages in Breckenridge under the care of CHI Hospice.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, MN.   There will be a visitation starting at 9 a.m.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Hankinson, North Dakota.  Father Leo Moenkedick will officiate the service.   Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, Minnesota, has been entrusted with all arrangements.

Marjorie Mary German was born on September 20, 1937, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, to Edward and Catherine (Brockhaus) German, the youngest of 11 children.  She was raised on the family farm east of Hankinson, North Dakota, and attended St Francis Academy, graduating in 1955.  She then began working for a dentist in Hankinson.

On July 23, 1956, Marjorie was united in marriage to John Lommel at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Hankinson.  The couple then made their home in White Bear Lake, MN for 4 years, North St. Paul, MN, for 10 years, Breckenridge, MN, for 10 years, then to Herman, MN, for the next 30 years, where Marjorie and John owned the Herman Drug Store.  After John’s passing in 2008, Marjorie eventually moved to Breckenridge.

In 1974, Marjorie graduated from NDSCS and became a Licensed Practical Nurse, which was her true calling.   She worked at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Stevens County Hospital in Morris, MN, then at the Villa of St. Francis in Morris, until her retirement.  She helped start the hospice program in Grant County where she volunteered.   Marjorie never retired at heart; she was a loving caregiver to all that she encountered until her last days.

Marjorie was a gifted homemaker, and strong in her faith.  She was always active in her current parish, whether it be decorating the church, on the parish council, choir, ladies guild, or teaching CCD classes.  Marjorie was also a 4H and Scout Leader.  She helped bring hockey to the Breckenridge community, making her one of the original “Hockey Moms”.

Marjorie was a very active lady who enjoyed traveling, loved visiting at family and class reunions, going to museums and nature parks.  Some of her other hobbies included cross country skiing, sewing, crafting, reading, and oil painting.  She was truly a multi-talented artist, happiest when she had a paintbrush in her hand.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Ann (Dan) Deal, Steven ‘Bucko’ (Cindy) Lommel, Edward (Diane) Lommel, Margaret ‘Peg’ (Craig) Gorecki, Elizabeth (Todd) Ukkelberg, and William Lommel; grandchildren, Sally (Kevin), Carolyn (Jim), Alicia (Scott), David (Adrienne), Kathryn (Jeremy), Jaclyn (Josh), Marie (Tucker), Lindsay, Teresa (Danny), Elizabeth (David), Peter, Mary (Jose), John, Sarah (Drew), Daniel, Will (Cassie); 23 great grandchildren; sister, Alice Morris; and sister-in-law, Agatha Herding.
