Mark "Whitey" as he was fondly referred to by family and friends, was born to Henry and Mary (Thuente) Nordick in Kent, MN where he grew up and attended school. After his schooling, he helped on the family farm until joining the US Army on July 19, 1951. He served in the Korean War conflict as a Radio Operator, specializing in Morris Code. After his discharge from the military July 1, 1953, Whitey returned home to work on the family farm.
On December 28, 1973, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brushvale, Whitey was united in marriage to Donna (Adams) Nordick, widow of Donald Nordick who had died in 1968. He began married life, not only as a loving husband but also as a supportive father of six children. Whitey was a diligent, hard-working man who actively farmed until he and Donna moved into Breckenridge in 1997. But even then, he didn't miss many opportunities to help family, friends, and neighbors on the farm.
Whitey was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Kent Rod and Gun Club, the Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 3, the Alfred Lockman American Legion # 53, VFW Post 2766, Military Honor Guard, and the Voice of Democracy. He was an avid reader and a history buff and loved the captive audience of his children and grandchildren as he told them stories from the past. He was zealous about fishing and hunting and anything outdoors including spending hours in the garden. He fancied classical music and was an enthusiastic Twins fan. He also enjoyed woodworking. Whitey will be remembered for his lovable sense of humor, compassion and a tender heart that brought stability and strength to those he loved.
Whitey is survived by his wife Donna of Breckenridge, MN; his children Janelle (John) Lotzer of Milnor, ND, Jackie (Kevin) Schneider of Windsor, CO, Sue (Dan) Nordick of Breckenridge, MN, Cindy (Ken) Gilles of Glyndon, MN; Pat (Deb) Nordick of Perham, MN and Gary (Jackie) Nordick of Waconia, MN. 13 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren; his sister Rose Rothmeyer of Calmar, IA; and many niece and nephews.
Whitey is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Father Benedict, Aloysius, Bernard, Lawrence, Brother Dunstan, Rudolph "Rudy", and Ann Conzemius.
