Marlys Grace Rieland was born May 5, 1939, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, to Evroul and Mae (VanTassel) Rieland. After high school, she left the family farm at an early age to attend college at North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) where she met her husband, Leo Richter.
In 1959, Marlys and Leo moved to Washington State to raise a family, where she worked initially for Pacific Car and Foundry Company (PACCAR) as clerical support to the engineering division of the company, and later in life worked for Doubletree Hotels in hospitality until retirement in 2000. Upon retirement, Marlys moved back to Breckenridge, her hometown near the family farm, where she continued to enjoy gardening, taking long walks with her dog, and outings with family and friends. Her love and passion for animals and nature was a source of lifelong joy.
She always took great pride in her family, and is survived by her daughter Pamela Beard, Breckenridge, MN; son, Randall (Tina) Richter, Kent, Washington; granddaughter, Alycia (Steven); great granddaughters, Alexis and Dana; sister, Diane (Ed) Miller, Wolverton, MN; brother, Richard Rieland, Kent, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leach Home, or the Humane Society of Richland-Wilkin County.
