Mary Lou Holzbauer was born June 12, 1934 to Alfred and Lucinda (Birgen) Holzbauer in Wagner, SD. At the age of 5, she moved with her family to a farm near Breckenridge, MN. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1952. On October 11, 1954, Mary Lou was united in marriage to John L. Friederichs at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge. They made their home on a farm near Doran.
Mary Lou's first priority was her family. She was a devoted mother to her 6 children, and John's pillar of strength. Other than the usual farm chores, she made time to be a 4-H leader for the Riverside Rockets, for crocheting, and attending homemakers club. She maintained a massive vegetable garden and enjoyed canning the autumn harvest. She volunteered for many years with the American Red Cross and was their treasurer for several of those years. For a period of time, she worked as a cook at St. John's Day Care in Wahpeton, ND. She treasured the time spent with her grandchildren and looked forward to going to their cabin on Crooked Lake. In the early 1980's, Mary Lou and John received the "Outstanding Farm Family of the Year" honors from the Minnesota Extension Service.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughters, Joan (Bruce) Dauer of West Fargo, ND, Diana Brummond of Morris, MN, and Mary Ann (Troy) Olson of Fertile, MN; her sons, Michael (Tammy) Friederichs of Doran, MN, James Friederichs of Fargo, ND, and Steven (Faith) Friederichs of Enderlin, ND; her 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Evelyn (Bernard ) Polansky of Lidgerwood, ND, Marcia (Wayne) Heley of Lidgerwood; her brothers, Alfred "AJ" (Phyllis) Holzbauer of Breckenridge, MN, Gerald (Gail) Holzbauer of Breckenridge, MN.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband John; her daughter, "Baby Mary"; her parents, Alfred and Lucinda; her brother, Thomas, in infancy; and her son-in-law, Brian.
