Mavis Darlene Keller

Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Mavis D. Keller, 90, of Breckenridge, formerly of Tintah, passed away peacefully at Sanford Fargo, on Friday, July 25, 2025, after a brief illness.

Mavis Darlene Hanson was born on November 10, 1934, at home near New Effington South Dakota to Elsie (Ekstrom) and Harvey Hanson. She met the love of her life, Richard Keller, at a barn dance and they were married July 28, 1953.

Mavis was a dedicated wife who loved her husband of 71 years 362 days more than can be expressed, cherished her 7 children, their spouses, her 24 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

After Mavis lovingly raised her family, she “went to work” at the Wheaton MN hospital where she developed lifelong friendships. She briefly enjoyed her retirement, then went back to work for a few years and retired again.

Mavis’s kitchen skills were untouchable. She was a marvelous cook, a gracious hostess and never failed to provide a bed or dinner for family and visitors. Music was another love of Mavis with ”The Rose” on her “at my funeral” list for a long time. As you wish.

She enjoyed traveling around the country to visit family and looked forward to welcoming the newest family members. An interesting family fact is two of her ancestors sailed from Sweden on the Titanic. She would most definitely tell the story to anyone who asked her and has multiple books on the ill-fated ship. Her most recent far away travels were in June, as she headed to New Orleans for her grandson’s wedding reception. If a casino was close by, she would engage in the fun of hearing the noisy machines hit a jackpot now and then.

We will undoubtedly miss Mavis, Wife, Mom and Grandmother more than written words can express and we will try to find comfort knowing she is completely pain free and blissfully in the Lord’s hands.

Mavis is survived by her husband Richard, her children, Pat (Joe) Keaveny, Linda Klindt, Bonnie (Tim) Felch, Rick (Sara) Keller, Gary (Tammie) Keller and David (Lisa) Keller, 24 grandchildren,25 great grandchildren, her sister Corrine, brother Ivan, many many nieces, nephews, numerous in-laws and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Sherry Zluticky, her great granddaughter Lydia, her sister Jeanette Keller, her brother Darwin Hanson, her mother and father in-law and many brothers and sisters-in-law.

On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND, recitation of the rosary will begin at 6:45 p.m., followed by the prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2025, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton. Father Greg Haman will be officiating the services. Burial will be held at St. Gall’s Catholic Cemetery in Tintah, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN.
