Naida Sandin,94, Wahpeton, ND died April 29, 2010 at St. Catherine’s Living Center.
The funeral will be at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 2:00 pm.
Officiating will be Sr. Maria Hunkler, OSB. The visitation is at 1:00 pm-one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment is at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN. Pallbearers are Cindy Schreiber-Beck, Whitney Beck and Erma Wallace.
Naida Rosina Sandin was born to Charles and Bertha (Nickerson) Peterson on December 22, 1915 in Breckenridge, Minnesota. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1933. She started her college education at NDSCS then finished at Moorhead State Teachers College, Moorhead, MN. After graduating college in 1937 she had the privilege of teaching in Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. On December 31, 1943, Naida and Kenneth W. Sandin were united in marriage in Breckenridge, MN. They made their home in Marion, Wisconsin where for 25 years Naida and Ken owned and operated a variety store and gift shop. They later returned to Breckenridge. Ken preceded Naida on January 20, 1975. Naida continued to live in Breckenridge and enjoyed working at Corky’s variety store. When her health began to fail, she moved to St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton, ND.
Naida found fulfillment in working in her flower garden and doing yard work. She loved to decorate the inside of her home for the seasons. She had been very active in the Baptist church. She played the organ and took pleasure in entertaining at her home and at the York Manor while living there. She was a highly skilled seamstress and had mastered the craft of knitting. Naida always found something positive in every situation and was a joy to be around. She will be missed by all those who knew her. Naida is survived by her sister, Dorothy Jacobs, Fargo, ND and sister-in-law, Gladys Peterson, Burnesville, MN. She was preceded by her parents, Charles and Bertha Peterson; husband, Kenneth Sandin, brothers, Charles Peterson, Leon Peterson, and Willard Peterson and sisters, Ellen Fairchild, Jane Mulhollen, Audrey Peterson in infancy.
