Nickie Wanous, 46, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. There will be a visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, November 11, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge. Father Joe Backowskie is the Celebrant.
Nickie was born to Nicholas and Prescilla (Villones) Brown on February 13, 1968 in the Philippines. She and her brother, Mike, moved to the United States in April of 1984. While in high school she worked at the Dairy Queen in Plentywood, MT. After graduating high school, she worked as a CNA at the Ponderosa Pines Nursing Home in Billings, Montana, and then at the Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan, WY. Nickie was united in marriage to Curt Wanous on February 11, 1994, in Breckenridge, MN, where they made their home and raised their son, Steven.
Nickie worked as a CNA at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND, from 1992 to 1996. She then worked in Home Health Care for a short period, going through the necessary upgrades in her home to accommodate senior clients. When the flood of 1997 damaged much of their home, she was no longer able to receive clients. It was then that Nickie took a job at St. Francis Nursing Home in Breckenridge as a CNA. Desiring to continue her vocation with the senior population, Nickie attended NDSCS from 1999 to 2002 in their LPN program, all the while working at St. Francis Nursing Home. Upon graduation, she took a position as an LPN at St. Catherine's Living Center.
Nickie was blessed to have a family whom she loved above all else. She was a loving wife and devoted mother, and beloved by all who knew her. She consistently put others needs above her own, and never counted the cost. Nickie loved all of the holidays. She made it her mission in life to make sure that her residents at St. Catherine's got to celebrate with flair! In her spare time, Nickie loved gardening, crafting, and every now and then, karaoke with friends.
Nickie is survived by her husband of 20 years, Curt; her son, Steven of Moorhead, MN; her mother Prescilla of Breckenridge; her siblings, Romeo Brown, Anita (Joe) Syring, and Mike Brown, all of Wahpeton; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son Joshua, in infancy, her father, Nicholas; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
