Norman Tolbert

April 3, 1925 — June 21, 2013

Norman Wendell Tolbert, 88 of Breckenridge, MN, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at St. Francis Nursing Home in Breckenridge. The funeral will be at 2:00PM, Tuesday, June 25 at Doran Presbyterian Church in Doran, MN. The visitation will be from 4 to 7:00PM on Monday June 24, at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. Pastor Wendell Kelm will be officiating.
Norman was born on April 3, 1925 in Minot, ND. At the age of 4, he moved to Breckenridge with his family where he grew up and attended school. In 1944, he graduated from Breckenridge High School and worked with his father on the family farm. Norman was united in marriage to Sarah Davenport on June 11, 1955 at the Moorhead Presbyterian Church, Moorhead, MN. They made their home on the family farm where they raised their 5 children. Norman farmed his entire life, but he also worked winters for Schuler Grain in Breckenridge, and at MinnDak Sugar Beet Plant in Wahpeton. He and Sarah moved into Breckenridge in 1998.
Norman enjoyed many hobbies when he wasn't busy with farming. He looked forward to hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with friends. It was important to Norman to keep family ties fresh and made it a priority to travel to Chattanooga, TN, Milwaukee, WI, and Woodland, WA to visit family.
Norman is survived by his wife Sarah of Breckenridge, MN; his children Amy (Warren) Kratzer of Wolverton, MN, Jon (Rhonda) Tolbert of Breckenridge, MN; Wayne (Charlene) Tolbert of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Jamie (Lisa) Tolbert of Eagle Lake, MN; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; 9 nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law George Davenport of Milwaukee, WI, and Reverend James (DeMaris) Davenport of Chattanooga, TN.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Iva Tolbert, his brother Robert Tolbert and his daughter Jeanne Tolbert; his father and mother- in- law Andrew and Sarah Mourer; his sister- in- law Delores Davenport.
