Orville E. Springer Jr., 65, of Wyndmere , ND , died June 30, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fargo , ND .



The funeral service for Orville will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 7:00 PM at the Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Breckenridge , MN . Pastor Michael Ward will be officiating.



Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.



Orville is survived by: His 2 brothers: Charles “Chuck” Springer, Wyndmere , ND ; and Wayne (Shirley) Springer, Rural Battle Lake , MN ; and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by: His wife: Carole and his parents: Orville Sr. and Jeraldine Springer



Orville was born March 16, 1943 at Wyndmere , ND , the son of Orville and Jeraldine (Mathiesen) Springer. He grew up and attended school in Wyndmere and joined the U. S. Navy on January 29, 1962, where he earned his GED.



In his first enlistment with the Navy he was stationed on three different ships out of Pearl Harbor , Hawaii for almost three years. Orville then reenlisted with the Navy on December 2, 1964 for an additional four years. During this time he served in Pearl Harbor, Springfield , IL , on the USS Guadalcanal, Norfolk , VA , and at Mayport , FL on the USS Saratoga. During his third enlistment, beginning November 7, 1968, Orville worked at several recruiting stations based out of Springfield , IL .



Orville married Carole Jean Walsh on May 18, 1973 in Decatur , IL . The couple made their home in Springfield and moved to other locations during Orville’s military service. In 1974, Orville was honorably discharged from the Navy and they moved to Wyndmere , ND . It was then that he began working at Wil-rich in Wahpeton, ND. He worked at Wil-rich for 30 years, retiring in 2005. Carole preceded him in death on September 7, 1995. Orville continued living in Wyndmere.



Orville was a member of the VFW club in Barney , ND , the American Legion Post No. 153 in Wyndmere, the DAV out of Fargo , ND and the Wyndmere Methodist Church . He enjoyed working at Wil-rich, following the Minnesota Twins and riding his Harley.
