Richard “Rich” Garrett Anderson, 81, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away peacefully at his home in Breckenridge on Monday, May 4, 2026. Visitation will be on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge, MN at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Breckenridge. Father Leo Moenkedick will lead the prayer service and Father Jim Tiu will officiate the funeral.
Rich was born on May 28, 1944, to Max and Lorraine (Poisson) Anderson in Minneapolis, MN. Rich received his education at Minneapolis Vocational High School and Technical Institute, earning his diploma in 1962, enlisting in the military soon after. He was united in marriage to Maria Evelyn Nazario on August 6, 1998 in the city of Ormoc, Philippines.
Throughout his life, Rich lived in South Minneapolis, Dalton, and Breckenridge, Minnesota, each community playing an important role in his journey. During his military service, he was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany, where he served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged due to injury.
Rich worked as a Custodial/Security Supervisor at the Hennepin County Courthouse in Minneapolis, MN, where he dedicated 31 years of service before retiring. He was an active member of both the UFCW and AFSCME unions. Rich was also a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, MN.
Rich enjoyed a wide range of interests, including hunting, fishing, basketball, and politics. He found simple pleasure in playing with his dogs, browsing on the internet, playing computer games, and reading. Above all, Rich loved spending time at the beach in the Philippines.
Rich is survived by his wife, Maria Evelyn, and their daughter, Rachel Lyndsey; his three daughters, Lori Ann (Schmidt), Lisa Marie, Megan Kristine; his son, Richard Anton; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and sisters, Judy (France) and Elizabeth.
Preceded in death by his parents, Max and Lorraine Anderson; his brother, Max Gale Anderson; and his grandson, Nicholas.
