Richard Harold Neppl, 75 of Fergus Falls, MN, formally of Breckenridge, MN passed away on March 27, 2011 at Lake Region Hospital. The visitation is March 30, 2011 from 4 pm to 7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. The funeral is March 31, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, MN. Officiating the service is Fr. Kenneth Popp. The interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN at a later date.
Richard "Rich" Neppl was born on December 28, 1935 to Harold and Laureign (Bellmore) Neppl. He grew up in Kent, MN, attended school in Abercrombie, ND and graduated high school in Breckenridge, MN. In 1954, Rich was united in marriage to Marlene Stollenwerk at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They made their home and raised their four children in Breckenridge. Rich worked as a brakeman for the Great Northern Railroad, the American Legion Pavilion, and for 33 years, Rich devoted his life to the City of Breckenridge Parks and Rec Department. He will be remembered for his passion for the kids and people of this community; especially his dedication to the Wilkin County Fair board, the Skating Rink, Arbor Days, and his timeless efforts in maintaining the appearance of Breckenridge. After his retirement in 1989, Rich and Marlene made their home in Fergus Falls, MN.
Rich loved the outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt, and yard work. He loved listening to country and old-time music. He treasured the times spent with friends and family at the lake. Even though Rich had years of health problems, he always had a smile on his face and a hug to give.
Rich was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a lifelong member of the Eagles Club, a volunteer fireman for Breckenridge for over 20 years, and belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Rich is survived by his wife Marlene of 56 years of Fergus Falls, MN; his children Vicki (Calvin) Hermes of Breckenridge, MN; Scott (Marlene) Neppl of Glenwood, MN; Brian (Lorraine) Neppl of Breckenridge, MN; Lisa (Wayne) Nordick of Battle Lake, MN; his grandchildren Corey (Carol) Brummond, Jennifer (Mike) Johnson, Daniel Hermes, Sherry (Dan) Schmit, Ashley Richards, Alexis Neppl, Cody Nordick, Neeley Malme, and Brian Nordick; his great-grandchildren Keifer and Keana Brummond; Peyton and Chase Johnson; Bryce, Riley and Dawson Schmit; Alexander and McKenzie Rantio; Sicily and Sawyer Malme and Rowan Krueger; and Landen, London and Liam Nordick; his siblings Trudy (Ray) Such; Marjorie (Gene) Polanski; Morris (Joann) Neppl; Nila (Wally) Grenz; Tim Neppl; Jay Neppl; Carol (Paul) LeNoue; Randy (Jan) Neppl Renee (Scott) Rossow; his In-laws Claudette (Loran) Hage; Lanette (Mike) Stollenwerk; Sharon (Bill) Conlin; Pete (Lori) Stollenwerk; Butch Stollenwerk; Shelly (Charlie) Zach and many nieces and nephews. Rich is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Laureign (Bellmore) Neppl; his siblings Ken and Terry Neppl; his in-laws Bud and Billie Stollenwerk and Mike Stollenwerk; Shirley Neppl; Neva Neppl and Gene Polansky.
