Rodney R. Bullis, 78, Fergus Falls, MN, formerly of Nashua, MN, passed away at the Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls on December 25, 2014. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls, MN, on Sunday December 28 from 4:30 to 8:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Gall's Catholic Church in Tintah, MN, on Monday, December 29 at 10:30 am with Father Mike Kellogg as the celebrant. The Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Nashua, MN, immediately following the funeral.
Rodney R. Bullis was born at Tintah, MN, May 21, 1936, to Ernest and Abby (Stumpf) Bullis. He graduated from Tintah High School in 1954. Rodney joined the US Army in 1956 and served his country at Schofield Barracks Military Base in Hawaii, until his honorable discharge in 1957. Rodney was united in marriage to Marietta Braun on May 27, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge, MN. Together, they established their dairy and grain farm in rural Nashua where they resided until 2011, at which time they moved to Fergus Falls.
As an energetic volunteer to his church and community, Rodney was a member of St. Galls Catholic Church in Tintah where he served on the church council and was a Eucharistic Minister. He held various offices in the state of Minnesota and Wilkin County 4-H horse programs. He also served as a board member for Championship Township, Farmers Co-op Oil of Wendell, Farmers Co-op Oil of Elbow Lake, Grant County Fertilizer in Elbow Lake, Farmers Co-op Elevator in Campbell, and Western Co-op Transport in Montevideo.
Rodney had a passion for raising horses and thoroughly enjoyed trail riding, especially at Maplewood State Park. He liked woodworking and making hand-crafted gifts for his family, including rocking horses for his grandchildren. With an authentic Midwest spirit, Rodney embraced all aspects of farm life, including crop touring, attending auctions, asparagus picking, campfires, and coffee with the neighbors.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Marietta of Fergus Falls; his children, Robert (Tamra) of Elk River, MN, Richard (Michelle) of Breckenridge, MN, Melea (Russ) Marple of Breckenridge, MN, Michele Edwards of Woodbury, MN, and Rocklyn (Paula) of Inver Grove Heights, MN; his grandchildren, Jesse Bullis, Christopher Flesch, Nicholas and Jacob Bullis, Jennifer and Garrett Marple, Grant and Isaac Edwards, Paige, Lauren, and Blake Bullis; his sister, Grace (Lloyd) Carter of Battle Lake, MN; his brothers, Donald (Charlotte) Bullis of Tintah, MN and Marvin (Karen) Bullis of Tintah, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Abby; his sisters, Dorothy Swift and Jean Niesche; his son-in-law, Paul Edwards.
