Ronald Peterson

August 23, 1928 — August 13, 2018

Ronald Clifford Peterson, 89, of Jamestown, ND, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Eventide Senior Living Community in Jamestown. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 24, 2018, followed immediately by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN. Pastor Tom Olson will be officiating, and the burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home.

Ronald Clifford Peterson was born in rural Minneota, MN, on August 23, 1928, to Clifford and Bernice (Furguson) Peterson. He attended Lynd Public School where he was a starter on the high school basketball team. When Ronald was a senior, his basketball team took second place in the 1946 state tournament. After graduating high school, he began a career in farming.

On October 8, 1948, Ronald was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Ponstein, at Balaton Church Parsonage. The newlyweds made their home on a farm in Lyon County and were blessed with three children: Douglas, Nancy, and John. Their children grew up south of Minneota where Ron and Evie farmed for many years. They also owned Century 21 Real Estate Company in Marshall, MN. In 1985, Ron and Evie moved to Detroit lakes and he began working for AAL Insurance. Ultimately, Ron had a passion and skill for working in the real estate business; he and Evie partnered together to sell real estate in the Detroit Lakes area. Ron continued in this profession until he was 85 years old.

Ron was a deeply caring man who cherished his family above everything else. In his free time, he enjoyed deer hunting. In his later years, he appreciated Fox News Channel for consistently keeping him informed on current events; there was hardly a moment he didn’t have Fox on the television. Ronald will be remembered for his work ethic, honesty, and wisdom; he was truly a remarkable man.

Ron is survived by his children, Douglas (Diane) Peterson of China Springs, TX, Nancy (friend, Ray) Peterson of Tyler, MN, and John (Kim) Peterson of Jamestown; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Peterson; his parents, Clifford and Bernice (Ferguson) Peterson; and his siblings, Robert Peterson and Carol Jean Atwood.
