History: Roy Allen Snyder was born October 30, 1912 in La Mars Township near Fairmount, ND, the son of Porter and Julia (Voss) Snyder. As an infant he moved with his parents to Roseau, MN where they farmed. At the age of 7, he and his family returned to the Fairmount area to farm. Roy attended La Mars school through the 8th grade. He continued his education at North Dakota State College of Science, where he studied Farm Management for 2 years. In 1934 he began his own farming career in LaMars Township.
Roy was united in marriage to Marguerite McShane in 1937, and together raised their family of 3 children. Marguerite preceded Roy in death in 1969. In 1974, Roy was married to Florence Simonson. He retired from farming and the couple moved to Wahpeton, ND, where they were active at the United Church of Christ. Florence died in 1991. During the past years Roy has stayed active in the community with the Wahpeton Senior Citizens and United Church of Christ. He moved to the Leach Home in July, 2001, where he has since made his home.
Roy enjoyed caring for his family and his home, especially his flower garden. He also liked traveling to northern Minnesota and visiting relatives in the Black Hills. Roy had also traveled to Washington, DC., Texas and Florida.
