Ruby Elizabeth Holecek, 92, of Breckenridge, MN, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND. The visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:30PM, with a prayer service at 5:00PM, and Christian Mothers Rosary at 5:30PM, Friday, November 29, 2013, at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the funeral, at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30AM, Saturday, November 30, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge. Father Joseph Backowski will be the celebrant. The interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Breckenridge.
Ruby was born on July 17, 1921, to Norman and Tilda (Auseth) Harvey in Foxhome, MN. She grew up near Foxhome and attended country school through the 8th grade. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1939. On July 17, 1943, Ruby was united in marriage to Frank Holecek at the Wilkin County Courthouse in Breckenridge. To this union, a son and two daughters were born. Ruby was active in St. Mary's Church, St. Agnes Mission Circle, Christian Mothers, VFW Auxiliary, and the Breckenridge Senior Center.
Sewing quilts for the family and St. Agnes Mission Circle was a gratifying pastime for Ruby. She enjoyed cooking. She welcomed guests with her baked goods, especially her cinnamon rolls and angel food cakes. She treasured the times she spent traveling, and visiting her friends and family.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Linda Holecek of Breckenridge, MN, and her son Frank (Carol Kurtyka) Holecek of Moorhead, MN; an "adopted daughter" Dee Langston of Breckenridge, MN; 2 grandchildren, Troy Holecek of Fargo, ND and Kelly (Donald, III) Rooks of Owatonna, MN; 2 great-grandchildren, Abigail Rooks and Donald Rooks, IV.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Tilda; her husband, Frank (1994); her daughter, Diane Holecek; her sister, Grace Wilson; her brothers, Clayton, Wesley, Everett, and Mahlon Harvey.
