Sandra “Sandy” Kay Miranowski, age 70, of Underwood, MN, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her husband and daughters. The funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, December 22, 2023, with a visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, MN. Father Leo Moenkedick and Father Leroy Schik will be officiating the services. Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge.

Sandy was born in Breckenridge, MN, on December 10, 1953, to Lawrence and Florence (Lockman) Brendel. She grew up and attended school in Breckenridge where she graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1971. Following high school, she continued her education at North Dakota State School of Science (now NDSCS), in the Secretarial program, graduating in 1972.

On September 21, 1974, Sandy married Duaine Miranowski at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They continued to live in Breckenridge where they raised their two daughters.

After graduating from NDSSS, she began employment there at the college’s Placement office. She worked at various places in the Breckenridge-Wahpeton area. In 2004, she began employment with Lakeland Mental Health Center in Fergus Falls, MN. Duaine and Sandy then moved to Stalker Lake in Underwood, MN, in 2005.

She and Duaine were able to do some traveling, but for the most part, stayed close to home. She enjoyed going for walks and doing jig saw puzzles on her iPad. Above all, she just enjoyed spending time with family, and especially loved time spent with her grandchildren. They spent many evenings relaxing around the campfire.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Duaine; daughters, Jennifer Neznik, of Moorhead, MN, and Lisa (Jay) Panzer, of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Dawson, Ava, and Liam Neznik; step grand-children, Braden, Evan and Kasen Panzer; brothers, Jim (Peggy) Brendel, of Alexandria, MN, and Gary Brendel, of Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Jackie Brendel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Lucille Miranowski; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dennis and Geraldine Milbrandt.

In lieu of flowers, all memorials made to the family will be given to charitable organizations held close to Sandy’s heart including the Roger Marris Cancer Center, Sanford Children’s Hospital, and Hospice of the Red River Valley, all of Fargo, ND.
