Scott Bernard Heitkamp was born on August 14, 1962, to Wilfred and Marcella (Anderson) Heitkamp in Breckenridge, MN.  He grew up in Breckenridge and later graduated from Breckenridge High School with the class of 1981.  Scott married Nancy Kappes on July 17, 1982, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent, MN.  The couple made their home in Breckenridge where they raised their children, Nicholas and Natalie.  Scott started his career working for Heitkamp Construction and later owned NSW before working with his children at Wahpeton Fabrication.

Scott had a love for the outdoors and spent much of his time hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He had a green thumb with flowers and spent plenty of time in the garden. He also enjoyed spending time at Ottertail Lake with his grandchildren and cooking for everyone. Scott was a hard-working man and was always there if you needed help.  He had a knack for having an idea in his mind and then being able to build it from scratch.  Scott also had a special place in his heart for his dog, Jasmine, who was always by his side.

Scott is survived by his wife, Nancy Heitkamp; his children, Nicholas Heitkamp and Natalie Medenwald; his grandchildren, Uriah Medenwald, Noah Medenwald, Marcellah Heitkamp-Dahlen, Adyson Heitkamp, Braxton Heitkamp, Kamdyn Heitkamp, and Madylan Heitkamp; his sister and Godmother, Corrine (Bruce) Langendorfer; siblings, Gary (Carolyn) Heitkamp, Rick Heitkamp, Lynette Klosterman, Wayne Heitkamp, and Dan Heitkamp; and many other nephews, nieces, and family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Marcella Heitkamp; his siblings, Sharon Woods and Neil Heitkamp; and a brother-in-law, Ken Klosterman.
