Susan Jeanne Andel, 66, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away at her home on Monday, July 25, 2016. The visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, on Thursday, July 28, at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. The visitation will continue at Breckenridge Lutheran Church from 9:30 to 10:15 AM, on Friday, July 29, followed by the funeral at 10:30 AM. Rene Hasbargen will officiate the service. The interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Breckenridge.
Susan was born on August 11, 1949, in Breckenridge, MN, one of five children born to Joseph and Wanda (Jones) Mehl. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School through the eighth grade then graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1967. She was united in marriage to Harvey Andel at St. Mary's Catholic Church, on April 27, 1968. They remained in their hometown where they raised their four children and Susan ran a home daycare. Her career transitioned from the care of children to the care of senior adults at the Leach Home in Wahpeton, ND. She was employed at the Leach Home for many wonderful years in various positions. She loved the Lord and treasured her relationship with Him.
Never one to have idle hands, Susan loved to quilt and embroider. She enjoyed the simple things in life like listening to music, feeding the birds and squirrels, and tending her flower garden. Those who knew her best knew that she also enjoyed playing the occasional practical joke. Susan was very devoted to her family especially her grandchildren.
Susan is survived by her husband of 48 years, Harvey, of Breckenridge, MN; her children, Brenda (Doug) Koppelman of Breckenridge, and their children: Shawn, Josh, Erika, Erin, and Ellyse; Mark Andel of Breckenridge and his children: Justin and Kiah; Brad (Jessica) Andel of Breckenridge and their children: Hunter, Logan, and Haylee; and Kari Andel of Breckenridge and her children: Jefri and Dusty. She will also be missed by her six great-grandchildren: Brett, Braden, Abby, Kate, Jack, and most missing his GiGi, is her great-grandchild, Jaylani; and her many nieces and nephews. Susan's siblings, Phyl (Roger) Herding of Holly Springs, NC, David (Mary) Mehl of Nichols, SC, Sandie (Tom) Schillinger of Billings, MT, and Teri (Jon) Dalager of Woodbury, MN. Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Wanda.
