Susan Jane Anderson

Susan Jane Anderson, 70, passed away on July 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Susan "Sue" Anderson was born on April 20, 1956, in Nuremberg, Germany, where her father was stationed during his military service. The family later returned to Kent, Minnesota, where Sue was raised alongside her younger sister, Karen. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1974 and later earned a degree from North Dakota State School of Science (NDSCS) in 1993.

Sue began the next chapter of her life when she met Davis "Sonny" Kemp. Together they welcomed three children: Brian and twins Christopher "Chris" and Patricia "Patti." During their early years together, the family lived in several states, including Texas, Oklahoma, and Idaho, as Sonny's work took them across the country.In 1987, Sue returned to Minnesota with her children, settling first in Kent and later in Breckenridge. There, she became deeply involved in her children's lives and in the community, dedicating countless hours to Cub Scouts, school activities, and volunteer efforts, always ready to lend a helping hand.

In June 1993, Sue married Daryl Anderson. Together they made their home in Breckenridge while creating many cherished family memories in Fergus Falls. Later in life, Sue lived at Park Place Apartments until 2025. During those years, she enjoyed dealing blackjack at "Sporty's" and the local bowling alley and spent many evenings cheering on local softball teams. She often reflected on that period as one of the happiest chapters of her life, marked by renewed friendships, laughter, and a strong sense of community. As her health declined, Sue moved to St. Catherine's, where her warmth and personality continued to brighten the lives of residents, staff, friends, and family. Her room was often filled with the unmistakable sounds of Creedence Clearwater Revival, a testament to her lifelong love of music. Along with reading—especially Stephen King novels—music remained one of her greatest passions and a gift she passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Sue was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Zimmerman; her grandparents, Earl and Ann Zimmerman; and other loved ones who welcomed her home.She is survived by her father, Richard (Ramona) Zimmerman of Wahpeton, North Dakota; her sister, Karen (Gary) Ford; her children, Brian (Mindy) Kemp of Moorhead, Minnesota, Christopher Kemp of Nevada, and Patricia Kemp of Regent, North Dakota; and her beloved grandchildren, Haley (Trenten) Walters of Dover, Delaware, Alexia Schaible, Jocelyn Schaible, Somer Schaible, Emily Kemp, Ty, Gavin, Jordan, and Karensa. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, friendship, and unwavering love.

Sue will be remembered for her resilience, her love of cats, her passion for Stephen King novels, her remarkable trivia knowledge, and the music that so often filled the rooms around her. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, Minnesota. A graveside burial will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery on Friday, August 7, at 10:30 a.m. in Kent, Minnesota.
