Timothy Thompson, 66 of Breckenridge, MN passed away September 25, 2011 under the care of Riveredge Hospice. The funeral is on Thursday September 29 at 1:00pm at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. The visitation is from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Officiating is Pastor Mark Manning. Interment is at Riverside Cemetery in Breckenridge, MN
Timothy Ned Thompson was born on September 24, 1945 to Adolph and Marina (Stein) Thompson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He grew up and attended school there graduating from Regis High School in 1965. Tim started college but soon realized the need to enlist in the United States Air Force because of the Vietnam War. He continued the strong Thompson family tradition of military service. During his time in the United States Air Force (USAF) Tim obtained three different specialty codes which included becoming an instructor. From 1965 – 1969 he taught metal processing for the USAF at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, and was granted key instructor status in 1968. After leaving the military, Tim worked as a journeyman tool and die maker at A.O. Smith Corporation in Kankakee, Illinois from 1969 – 1972. Tim's passion for teaching led him to North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota, where he completed 36 years of distinguished service. He taught in the Machine Tool department and was department chair from 1985 until 1992. At that time, he created and implemented a new program, Automated Manufacturing Technician. He was a member of American Technical Education Association (ATEA)and International Society of Automation (ISA) Tim retired in May 2011 from NDSCS.
Tim enjoyed fishing, hunting, working outside and spending time with family, especially Cory and Ryan whom he helped raise and was their father figure. Tim loved teaching, helping others and making people happy. Tim affected many lives throughout his teaching tenure, not only with technical skills but also with common sense living and compassion.
Tim is survived by his special friend Kara Gruenberg of Breckenridge, MN; his step-daughters Denise (Jim) Lande of Breckenridge, MN; Debbie (Tony) Rice of Fargo, ND; his brother Tom (Carol) Thompson of Blaine, MN; his sisters Margaret (Eugene) Engeldinger of Strum, WI; Sis Thompson of Chippewa Falls, WI; his 6 grandchildren Cory (Amber) Bernard, Ryan (Briann) Allison, Eric, Jordyn, and Madison Lande, and Cole Defries; his 4 great-grandchildren Carter, Kylee, and Conner Bernard and Cooper Allison; several nieces and nephews.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Marina Thompson.
