Breckenridge, MN

Vickie JoAnn Wentz, 67, a lifelong resident of Breckenridge, MN, passed away in her home on February 7, 2026. A devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandma, sister and friend, Vickie's life was defined by her unwavering love for her family and for helping others.

Vickie's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, at 2:00 pm with Rene Hasbargen presiding. Visitation will be held the night prior, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN, from 5-7 pm with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church starting one hour prior to the service at 1:00 pm.

She was born on April 21, 1958 in Breckenridge, MN to Glen and Ella Snyder. She was attended school there and was a graduate of Breckenridge High School, class of 1976. She was a member of Breckenridge Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed.

She married Marlin Wentz on August 26, 1978 and they made their home in Breckenridge. Together, they welcomed their first child, a daughter, Shanna Lynn. She had 5 ½ peaceful years as an only child until they welcomed a son, Joshua Roy, who completed their family and his sister grew to love.

Vickie spent her working years in various customer service roles, working several years as a Pharmacist Technician and later as a nighttime front-end supervisor at Walmart until her retirement in 2020. This allowed her more time with family and to do the things she enjoyed.

Her favorite role in life was being THE BEST grandma that her grandson’s Landon (13) and Grayden (11) could have ever asked for. Nothing brought her more pride than hearing about and seeing their accomplishments. When her mobility became restricted in recent years, she watched EVERY football, baseball and hockey game she was able to stream online of theirs…and there were A LOT. She made sure to text each of them before and after every game to wish them luck and tell them how proud of them she was, even when the game didn’t go their way. When they took an interest in collecting sports memorabilia in recent years, she leaned into that passion so much so that she actually had her own Fanatics “dealer” she worked with to find the perfect gifts for birthdays and Christmas. Her love for the sport of hockey grew in watching her favorite two boys. It was not uncommon for her to watch the MN Wild, even when Marlin wasn’t home.

Marlin and Josh will miss her daily check-ins while they were on one of their hunting outings or many fishing trips.

While her immediate family was her pride and joy, she also made sure to make her nieces and nephews feel loved and special. Whether it was well thought out gifts, personal messages out of the blue checking in, or special treats on different holidays, she was always there. Her true joy was in helping others and did so every chance she could. She was the quiet strength and glue that held the family together. She made sure everyone felt included and loved.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her husband of 47 years, Marlin; daughter Shanna (Jay) Muller of Fargo, ND; son, Josh, of Breckenridge, MN and grandsons, Landon & Grayden Muller of Fargo. She will also be missed by her siblings, Beverly Albrecht of Willmar, MN; Rick (Becky) Snyder of Wahpeton, ND; Bradley Snyder and Lori (Scott) Lipp of Breckenridge, MN; Debbie (Jay) Mathiason of Big Lake, MN; sister-in-law, Linda Snyder of Ottertail Lake, MN; sister-in-law, Denise (Kelly) Hanson of Stanley, ND; and brother-in-law, Darrin Wentz of Fargo, ND and many nieces and nephews whom she loved with her whole heart.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Glen and Ella Snyder; brother, Russ Snyder; father and mother-in-law, Dennis and Rosie Wentz; brother-in-law, Ed Albrecht; sister-in-law, Sue Snyder; and brother-in-law, Arlin Wentz.

In Vickie’s honor, please do something nice for someone else and be kind to one another.
