David “Jim” Manock, 73, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, June 10, 2019, at Essentia Medical Center, Fargo. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2019, at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at United Methodist Church, Breckenridge, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Mark Gronseth will be officiating. Burial will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

David Manock, affectionately known to many as “Jim,” was born in Ballymena, Ireland, on July 29, 1945, the son to Nathan and Agnes (Cromie) Manock. During his adolescent years, he lived in Fairmont, ND, Syracuse, NY, and eventually settled in Breckenridge. After graduating high school, Jim joined the Army National Guard and began working at a local gas station. It was during his time working at the gas station when he met his future wife, Mary Beth Gutwasser and they were married on June 30, 1966, in Wahpeton, ND. They made their home in Breckenridge and were blessed with three sons.

Jim worked at Casper’s Furniture in Wahpeton for many years and later worked at Ro-Banks, Wahpeton, until his retirement in 2011. During his retirement, if you wanted to see him you knew to stop by Breckenridge Amoco on Tuesdays where he would be serving up gas and jokes!

Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cruising around in his pickup. He was an outdoorsman. He looked forward to the time spent in his vegetable garden or lending a hand to neighbors by mowing their lawn in the summer or snow-blowing in the winter. Tinkering and coming up with new projects always intrigued Jim; he was a skilled woodworker and a handyman. One of his projects commissioned from Jim was the infamous Dunk Tank at the Wilkin County Fair and other community events. All those who were blessed to know Jim will remember him for the many times they chuckled at his jokes, but most of all, his love for his family. Jim impacted many people throughout his life and will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his children, Michael (Stacee) Manock of Wahpeton, and their children, Zachary and Ethan; Mark (Bridget) Manock of Scottsdale, AZ, and their children, Luke, Matthew, and Nicholas; Paul (Sara) Manock of Fergus Falls, MN, and their children, Katie (Jason) Osvold of Fargo, and Brooklyn; siblings, Bernie (Val) Manock of Breckenridge and Cecelia Manock of Wahpeton; and brother-in-law, Tom Miller of Moorhead, MN.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Beth Manock; parents, Nathan, and Agnes Manock; and siblings, Louise Miller and Loren “Danny” Manock.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge.
