Luella Drewlow

July 23, 1922 — May 24, 2018

Luella Frances Drewlow, 95, of Breckenridge, MN passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at St. Francis Medical Center in Breckenridge. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Breckenridge Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will be at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Wolverton, MN.

Luella was born on July 23, 1922 in Pelican Rapids, MN to Johnnie and Annetta (Haglund) Arntson. She grew up and attended grade school there and upon completing the 11th grade, Luella stayed home to take care of her mother who had been diagnosed with cancer. During this time, she met George Drewlow, a young man who was working for her father. The two quickly fell in love and were married on May 2, 1942 at a parsonage in Pelican Rapids. Luella and George began their married life together on the Drewlow homestead in Kent, MN. Life there was exciting and sometimes hectic as Luella and George raised their family of 14 children - eight girls and six boys. Luella did as much as she could to help contribute to the family, including raising chickens for many years.

Luella was the matriarch of her family, she raised her children according to the word of God, and made sure they went to church every Sunday. Her true vocation and focus were the love and care of her family. Luella taught her children how to sew, knit, crochet, garden and can produce; with each of these activities, she was also instilling life lessons of patience, hard work, and dedication. Two of the most important things in Luella’s life was knitting and crocheting, and she took great pride in her work. As her children began having children of their own, she would gift blankets and booties to her newborn grandchildren. As they grew older and graduated from high school, she effortlessly created stunning afghans and quilts to give them for their achievements. This hobby was passed on to her children and eventually her grandchildren, teaching patience and perseverance, and enjoying the time spent learning and crafting together. Luella also loved to garden. From a young age, she sought to bring beauty and peace to those around her, and nurturing her plants and flowers was an extension of that belief. She also valued her community. She stayed active in the local Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) where she held several offices and also contributed her efforts in knitting over 1,000 hats for infants born overseas. She was also a remarkable 4H leader for over 20 years and was a member of the Merry Mother Homemakers Club. She was known for her loving personality and humility and grace were woven into the very fiber of her being. Luella had an unwavering faith that led her through life and ultimately, into the arms of Jesus who called her home.

Luella will be missed by her children, John (Marilyn) Drewlow of Lisbon, ND; Annetta Martin of Doran, MN; Dennis (Vickie) Drewlow of Great Bend, ND; Meryl (John) Ostendorf of Big Fork, MN; Grace (Michael) Giombetti of Hibbing, MN; Donna (Douglas) Johnson of Racine, WI; Loretta Drewlow of Fargo, ND; Lavern (Greta) Drewlow of Effie, MN; James (Sandy) Drewlow of Effie, MN; Janice Drewlow (Gary Smith) of Wahpeton, ND; Kenneth (Roxsy) Drewlow of Fargo, ND; and Marlin (Brenda) Drewlow of Dilworth, MN; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
